Dimitrios Lignos is an Associate Professor of Structural Engineering at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. He is the director of Resilient Steel Structures Laboratory (RESSLab). His research interests involve performance-based earthquake engineering and integrated computational modeling and large-scale experimentation for the fundamental understanding and simulating structural collapse of structures as well as the development of metrics and technologies that promote low damage over a structure's life cycle. He has been honored with the 2013 ASCE State-of-the-Art in Civil Engineering Award for rationalizing the collapse estimation for steel moment frames under seismic loading. Professor Lignos serves as an acting member in various national and international technical committees for the further development of the seismic design provisions in Europe, North America and Asia including the Project Team 2 (CEN/TC250 / SC8.T2) for the second generation of Eurocode 8.
